Bear Creek Mountain Resort Vacation Itinerary

Arialle Hess
Peaceful mountain scenery, culture and music festivals, amusement parks, and tons of outdoor activities are just some of the reasons Bear Creek Mountain Resort makes a great vacation destination in eastern Pennsylvania. Located on the outskirts of Macungie, the resort is just a short drive from all the activities in both Berks County and the Lehigh Valley.

Booking a room at The Hotel at Bear Creek gives you access to great outdoor fun both on and off the resort premise. This year, the resort is adding a few new activities that you will want to add to your vacation itinerary.

Editor’s note: Some services and amenities may be adjusted due to the pandemic.

The Resort

Bear Creek has big plans to turn the ski slopes into a summer mountain vacation destination. Currently in the works is a mountain slip n’ slide brought to you by Slide the Slopes. With over a mile of slides, this company has created some of the longest and biggest inflatable slip n’ slides in the world! This activity is scheduled to come to Bear Creek July 16th – September 6th. Put this one on your bucket list!

Next in the production stage is a Giant Swing. This enormous structure will swing you from thrilling heights that overlook 330 acres of beautiful mountain scenery.

Guided Mountain ATV Tours will also make their yearly debut in early summer. The resort has upgraded its ATV to now seat 5 guests; allowing more of your friends to join in on the fun.

Hotel packages are a great way for guests to take advantage of all the resort has to offer. If you’re looking to stay on the resort’s premise, The Adventure Package is a perfect package the whole family can enjoy. It includes an overnight stay along with ax throwing, and archery target shooting, as well as access to the outdoor pool, hiking and biking trails, disc golf course, and pond activities such as kayaking, fishing and more!

Local Activities

In the morning, plenty of tourists hit up one of the many golf courses this area has. With one in every direction, you can make a vacation itinerary just for golf.

Pennsylvania offers a plethora of local wineries, vineyards, breweries and distilleries. An afternoon tasting of locally-sourced deliciousness definitely makes the top ten things to do this side of the mountain.

Don’t let the small metropolitan size fool you. In the evening, you have endless food options that range in price as much as they range in taste. As one of the original states, immigrants have brought various cuisines from all around the world to eastern PA. Whether you’re looking for fine dining or a spot where the locals dwell, the options in the both Berks and Lehigh will keep your vacation interesting.

Berks County

Just west of the resort lies wide open spaces of Berks County; an unassuming county that has much to offer.

Arts & Entertainment

If you’re looking for festivals and events, Reading hosts the nationally renowned Liederkranz Oktoberfest. An appropriate event given the rich German history rooted in this area. Just northeast of Reading lays Kutztown, a quaint town that specializes in everything PA Dutch. The town’s Kutztown Folk Festival was ranked top 3 in cultural festivals. Although some events may remain virtual this year, they still exude the same appreciation for great artistry and cultural roots through music, food, and crafts.

Cultural Experience

Filled with history, both Reading and Kutztown are top tourist spots. Enjoy a day visiting the historic sites and railroads, exploring state parks, or going underground to see the local caverns and caves. And don’t forget to stop at The Pagoda to view the entire city of Reading from above.

A road trip through the rural area of Berks County makes a great relaxation day on your vacation itinerary. The Mennonite and Amish shops and farms that dot the way between Bear Creek and Reading give the area an authentic feel. There are farmers markets and roadside stands bursting with fresh produce, homemade goodies, and handmade furniture. This unique way of life will leave a lasting impact on all visitors. The beautiful farmland scenery and mix of cultures and lifestyles make this modest area bucket-list worthy. Please remember to share the wide-open roads with horse and buggies.

Lehigh Valley

Travelling east of the resort paves the way to the metropolitan area of the Lehigh Valley. Made up of three small cities, the Lehigh Valley is full of wineries, delicious dining, museums, and live entertainment.

Art & Entertainment

Each city has its own art museums, historical museums, and art districts. Bethlehem is home to America’s oldest Bach Choir in the nation, where the most memorable performances made waves across seas in the homeland. Allentown is home to Civic Theatre, a well-rounded performing arts scene that not only hosts plays, but also shows foreign, silent and independent films.

Unmatched live entertainment can be found at ArtsQuest. Located in Bethlehem, the city has turned its most famous landmark, Bethlehem Steel, into living history. A casino, shopping center, and platz for the performing arts, fittingly called SteelStacks, makes this area a popular place in the summer.

Perhaps the biggest musical festival in the area that attracts people from all around the nation is Musikfest. This 10-day event is packed with musical performances of all different genres, both past and present. The city of Bethlehem will open its gates this year on August 6th.

Activities for Kids

If travelling with kids in tow, check out Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom for a day of thrill rides and water slides. Less than 30 minutes away from the resort, this amusement park resides right outside Allentown. You will be parents-of-the-year if you put this on your family vacation itinerary.

Looking for an exciting learning experience for your kids? Easton is home to the Crayola Experience, while just a 20-minute drive from there is the Da Vinci Science Center. Both places give children a unique learning experience while having fun.
