Trail Blazers

Bear Creek Mountain Resort sits on 330 acres of versatility. It welcomes a variety of guests; all destined for a different experience. What isn’t often brought to light is our competitiveness. The surroundings of the resort span across miles of hiking and biking trails, which are not only used for recreational purposes, but also the occasional show-down! Every year Bear Creek’s two mountain biking races set the stage for the most competitive trail blazers.

The first race will fall on Sunday, June 3rd and awakens the masochists of exercise. Although the most popular form of mountain biking because it can be as strenuous or relaxing as you make it, Cross Country mountain bike racing is an Olympic discipline and when turned into a competition, it becomes a merciless physical battle with brutal mental torment as the clock keeps ticking. The Bear Creek Challenge XC is a 5-mile mapped course on which riders pedal 1-3 laps in hopes of finishing with the fastest time. The terrain tests both the rider’s endurance and technical skills. If you want to see athletes push their bodies to exhaustion under excruciating circumstances, you won’t want to miss The Bear Creek Challenge XC.

The second race will fall on Sunday, August 12th and attracts the adrenaline junkies. The Bad Bear Enduro is an adventurous riding style with very technical tracks, steep climbs and big drops. Each climb pushes the rider to his or her limits, just before racing down the mountain in a timed descent. These riders are padded up and ready to eat up whatever the mountain throws at them. If you want to experience blood-pumping excitement, you won’t want to miss the Bad Bear Enduro race.

If you are new to the sport of mountain biking, this is a great opportunity to come out and see what it’s all about. And if the race atmosphere doesn’t get you hooked, a demo day surely will. Both Lehigh and Berks counties host a variety of local shop-sponsored events that allow you to be a trail blazer for a day. Friendly experts from bike companies supply you with a library full of information and ensure that you have a safe experience by assisting you with any questions and concerns. It’s a great opportunity to try something new and learn about the sport of mountain biking. It’s one fun day in nature you won’t want to miss!
