Hiring Needs & Process for the 20/21 Winter Season

Macungie, Pa.– Bear Creek Mountain Resort is a four-season resort located in Macungie, Pa., just miles from I-78. The ski resort is a premier destination with beginner-friendly staff and slopes.

While other companies are still handing out layoffs, Bear Creek Mountain Resort is ramping up their hiring efforts in preparation for the upcoming winter season.

"Our biggest needs are line-cooks, restaurant servers, lift operators, hotel housekeepers, overnight snowmakers, and several people to work at our snow sports desk scheduling lessons," said Monica Hamilton, Director of Human Resources.

Bear Creek can serve as a great opportunity to locals who have lost their jobs due to the nation-wide unemployment rise caused by the pandemic. Given that the quasi economic rebuild is still underway, the resort has taken extensive measures to ensure the safety of all employees.

"We are definitely taking COVID into consideration in everything we do. We are looking to hire fewer people that have a little bit more availability rather than hiring multiple people that can only work one or two shifts a week," Monica Hamilton said.

In addition to ‘Ever Strong’, the resort’s comprehensive cleaning and sanitization program, strategic hiring has now become utmost priority.

"Both our guests and team members need to be safe in order for us to operate, so we took that into consideration not only by making changes to our operational plan with our Ever Strong program along with the NSAA Ski Well Be Well program, but also by reviewing and enhancing our hiring process," said Hamilton.

Understanding the severity of the current situation, the Human Resources department had to think outside the box to find possible employees for the upcoming winter season. Although the face covering and physical distancing mandates are abided by while on the resort’s premise, the resort was determined to find an alternative to in-person interviews. Bear Creek normally takes on a few hundred extra employees just for winter operations and holding a virtual job fair on December 2nd through Indeed was the solution they were looking for.

“The event went very well. We had great attendance. The feedback from both candidates and hiring managers was positive. We are still hiring for seasonal positions, so interested candidates can keep their eye out for our next event, or just go on our website to apply today,” Monica Hamilton said.

Bear Creek would like to host another online job fair in the near future, but a second run is only in the planning stages as of now. If determined, the resort will advertise any future virtual job fair dates via their social media platforms and website. Current openings are listed online on the resort website.
