Bear Creek Uses Local Business as the Official Hot Sauce

OSO CALIENTE TO GIVE GUESTS’ TASTE BUDS AN EXTRA KICK

Kutztown, PA’s Homesweet Homegrown, known for growing and providing the rarest organically-grown peppers in the world, today unveiled a limited-edition Bear Creek Mountain Resort hot sauce – Oso Caliente, Spanish for “Hot Bear.”

OSO Caliente has a medium-spicy smoky apple chipotle flavor and features Caribbean Red habanero and chipotle peppers (smoke-dried jalapeños).

As the resort’s official hot sauce, Bear Creek’s Chef Anthony Distefano will use Oso Caliente as the house wing sauce and feature it in seasonal specials, as well as at the Bloody Mary Bar in Trails End Café. It will also be available as a condiment on all tables at The Grille and Trails End Café, as well for purchase at Bear Creek Mountain Resort’s gift shop.

Oso Caliente is the perfect way to warm up those taste buds and give our guests an extra ‘lift’ when coming off the slopes this ski season,” said Chef Distefano. “With Homesweet Homegrown’s farm less than 10 minutes from here, we thought this was an incredible opportunity to introduce a locally-created product to our visitors and wow their taste buds with Oso Caliente.”
Homesweet Homegrown is one of the country’s only specialty organic chili pepper farms (and the first woman-owned) to produce Certified Organic peppers.

After getting its start at the Bear Creek’s Wine festival in 2012, Robyn Jasko, founder of Homesweet Homegrown, and her husband, Paul David, launched a kickstarter campaign and became the highest-funded hot sauce in kickstarter history.

At its organic farm in Kutztown, PA, Homesweet Homegrown grows more than 50 types of rare peppers of all heat ranges and flavor profiles. Then it ships them across the country for chili heads to experience the fantastic flavor and pepper-high one can only get from eating fresh chili peppers. Organically grown and boosted with cover crops, Homesweet Homegrown uses zero pesticides, chemicals, or synthetic fertilizers, and produces the healthiest peppers around.

“Being practically neighbors, we thought this was a great opportunity to feature one of our hot sauces at one of the premier destinations in the region – Bear Creek Mountain Resort,” said Jasko. “We find that Oso Caliente is delicious on sandwiches, pizza, chili, and, of course, tacos and burritos, and anytime you would reach for a bottle of hot sauce. It’s really great for those Bear Creek guests and visitors who want to give their food some extra kick.”
